Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Decadas Diadema
Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Decadas Diadema
The Cigar
Back in 2018, Joya de Nicaragua celebrated its 50th anniversary how many cigar companies celebrate anniversaries, with a new cigar line. This one was called Cinco Décadas, a new limited production line and it would become the company’s most esteemed offering.
But beyond just using the Cinco Décadas line to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, Joya de Nicaragua has been using it to celebrate and honor some key people and a key thing in the company’s history
Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Decadas El Embargo
Esteli, Nicaragua - The 1980s were a critical decade for Nicaragua and Nicaraguan cigars. Two events were fundamental in shaping the country’s history during that decade: the civil war and the economic embargo, declared by the United States against the Central American nation in 1985. The embargo became an enormous obstacle for Nicaraguan products, as they were prohibited from entering the US Market, and its citizens could no longer enjoy Nicaraguan crafted cigars. But once more from obstacles came opportunity.
With its primary market forbidden indefinitely, Joya de Nicaragua had to seek alternatives to sell its cigars. This is how Joya de Nicaragua found in Europe one of its greatest allies, emerging as the first brand of Nicaraguan cigars to be enjoyed in the old world, and eventually becoming one of the best known Nicaraguan brands around the globe.
“Cinco Decadas pays tribute to our milestones as a company; the events that have made and shaped who we are today. But not all of the occasions were positive, some of them were paramount challenges. The embargo was one of those hard situations we confronted, but one that in retrospect allowed Joya de Nicaragua to establish itself as a truly global brand. Another great example of how the tough moments in life can actually make us better and stronger. With El Embargo, we bring to our European friends a token of gratitude for opening their arms to us during those years” said Dr Alejandro Martinez Cuenca, Chairman of Joya de Nicaragua S.A
Commemorating the resisliency of Joya de Nicaragua thirty five years ago, the company is proud to introduce Cinco Decadas El Embargo, a limited edition 6 x 60 box pressed gigante with only 500 boxes of 10 cigars produced. Respecting its origin, it will not be available for sale in the USA

Joya de Nicaragua Limited Edition Ultimate Jewel Collection
The Ultimate Jewel Collection from Joya De Nicaragua was inspired by an exchange between a visitor to the Joya factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and Master bochero Aristo Torres. When asked ‘what exactly do you do?’ his brilliant response was ‘I am a jeweller. But not just any jeweller. Each of my hand-rolled creations is a man’s best friend. It’s not just a cigar; it’s an experience, each puff a story unfolding’
This seemingly trivial exchange sparked the inspiration behind the Ultimate Jewel Collection. A remarkable sampler of Joya De Nicaragua’s top creations providing a journey into the craftmanship of its blenders and master makers through time. An insight into the work of Aristo, who humbly and confidently, has been perfecting his craft at the factory for the past 30 years and counting.
The Ultimate Jewel Collection features fourteen exceptional cigars, each from one of JDN’s family of brands in its line’s best-selling vitola. The selection also spans launches from 1968 all the way to 2023, from when Joya initiated the Nicaraguan cigar industry, to the commemorative 55th Anniversary blend. The cigars will provide a deep insight into the wide range of flavour profiles, complexities and strengths mastered throughout the years.
Joya de Nicaragua literally translates to the ‘Jewel of Nicaragua’ An unequivocal link to luxury, but one that by belief is unpretentious. Instead of delighting boasters, this jewel stands for craftsmanship, heritage and quality, with the sole purpose of crafting great cigars for those in the know. Every puff is a story, a legacy passed through smoke and fire. Imagine unwrapping this box, each cigar a hidden gem revealing itself. The tobacco leaves? Cigar Aficionado Rating 96
#1 Cigar Aficionado Top 25 Cigars 2012
The story of Cigar Aficionado’s 2012 Cigar of the Year begins in Cuba, the island home of José “Pepin” Garcia, his son Jaime and daughter, Janny. Pepin began rolling cigars at the age of 11 in his hometown of Baez. He rose to prominence in Cuba as a talented cigarmaker but yearned for freedom and opportunity.
One by one the Garcia’s left, eventually making their way to Miami where they began producing cigars. Their beginnings were humble: the factory was tiny with a dozen rollers and they didn’t own the entire operation.
They had their first taste of glory with the Tatuaje brand, which they made for Pete Johnson. It brought critical acclaim as well as increasing demand, which led the family to venture out on its own, eventually constructing the massive and My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Whilst Pepin focuses his energies on growing tobacco in Nicaragua, trying various seed varieties, Jaime is the company’s master blender. They released the Flor de Las Antillas brand in May 2012, using a variety of Nicaraguan tobaccos, their trademark double binder and a wrapper leaf grown in the open sunlight. They named the brand for Cuba, the largest of the Antilles Islands, which are called Antillas in their native Spanish. The standout of the four-size brand is the Toro, which has a gentle, rounded box press and a beautiful and evenly coloured wrapper.
The cigars are delicious from the first puff, with notes of nutmeg, white pepper and just enough strength without being overpowering. They are classics, 96-point rating on the Cigar Aficionado 100-point scale. The Garcia’s have worked long and hard since leaving Cuba, coming a long way in a very short time. Their cigars have made numerous appearances on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list, but this is the first time they have won Cigar of the Year.

My Father Le Bijou 1922 Torpedo Box Pressed
The Cigar
Description
#1 Cigar Aficionado Top 25 Cigars 2025
The original My Father brand was created by Jaime Garcia to honour his father, Pepin. A year later, Pepin decided to honour his own father with an offshoot brand called My Father Le Bijou 1922. Unlike the originals, which wear an Ecuadoran cover leaf, Le Bijou 1922 cigars are darker and stronger. The blend is Nicaraguan from top to bottom, showcasing Cuban-seed wrappers that the Garcia family calls oscuro. Only one size—this torpedo—is box-pressed. Some will say that box-pressing a cigar is only an aesthetic decision. But when the Garcia's took this hearty, complex blend, rolled it into a torpedo shape and then gave it a pressing, the result stood out for its ability to deliver complex notes clearly and harmoniously.
