Every year since the end of the last century, we have put aside a few boxes of particularly noteworthy Havana cigars. Some succumbed to market demands, but others have remained in our warehouse where they have been allowed to age in perfect conditions of temperature and humidity. Today they comprise an exceptional collection known as Hunters & Frankau’s House Reserve.
Starting in 2019, small quantities of these precious cigars have been released for sale in Britain. They are presented either in their original boxes under the banner of Aged & Rare, or in specially commissioned humidors as part of the House Reserve Series 1790.
All share two aspects of provenance: first, they were made totally by hand in Cuba under the auspices of Habanos S.A. and second, they have been released from Hunters & Frankau’s House Reserve where they have resided ever since they first arrived in Britain. In 2022 a foot band wasintroduced to identify each cigar as part of
Hunters& Frankau House Reserve Series 1790 Collection humidor.
The Collection No.3 humidor is the third release from Hunters & Frankau’s House Reserve Series 1790 and is exclusive to the UK. Just fifty numbered humidors have been commissioned from Italian humidor makers, DeART S.r.l with each containing 50 Por Larrañaga cigars representing the four vitolas selected in the past to represent the brand as a UK Habanos Regional Edition.
The cigars are double banded and carry an additional foot band to identify each one as part of Hunters & Frankau House Reserve Series 1790 Collection No.3. For this third special release, Hunters & Frankau has partnered with Parisian luxury goods company, S. T. Dupont, to create a unique cigar cutter and lighter set for each humidor. Each cutter and lighter bears the Series 1790 emblem and each one numbered and assigned to the corresponding humidor. The cutter unfolds to create a cigar rest, while the Ligne 2 lighter is fitted with a double flame, ideally suited for a cigar with a heavy ring gauge. It also has the distinctive Dupont ‘cling’ when the lid is opened. Por Larrañaga is the oldest Cuban brand currently in production and all the cigars are totally handmade, long filler using tobacco leaves from Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
