Joya De Nicaragua was one of the first to host private cigar blending sessions in its factory in Esteli, offering a fun and fascinating insight into blend creation. The JDN master blenders have since reviewed hundreds of blending records to build the perfect scoring recipe. Cinco de Cinco is made from ultra-vintage tobaccos, including a Mexican San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers and binders in a soft pressed format. It is a five out of five in profile & complexity, full bodied and medium strength, with dark rich flavours that offer hints of cocoa and dark chocolate.

Back in 2018, Joya de Nicaragua celebrated its 50th anniversary how many cigar companies celebrate anniversaries, with a new cigar line. This one was called Cinco Décadas, a new limited production line and it would become the company’s most esteemed offering.

But beyond just using the Cinco Décadas line to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, Joya de Nicaragua has been using it to celebrate and honor some key people and a key thing in the company’s history

Esteli, Nicaragua - The 1980s were a critical decade for Nicaragua and Nicaraguan cigars. Two events were fundamental in shaping the country’s history during that decade: the civil war and the economic embargo, declared by the United States against the Central  American nation in 1985. The embargo became an enormous obstacle for Nicaraguan products, as they were prohibited from entering the US Market, and its citizens could no longer enjoy Nicaraguan crafted cigars. But once more from obstacles came opportunity.

With its primary market forbidden indefinitely, Joya de Nicaragua had to seek alternatives to sell its cigars. This is how Joya de Nicaragua found in Europe one of its greatest allies, emerging as the first brand of   Nicaraguan cigars to be enjoyed in the old world, and eventually becoming one of the best known Nicaraguan brands around the globe.

This seemingly trivial exchange sparked the inspiration behind the Ultimate Jewel Collection. An insight into the work of Aristo, who humbly and confidently, has been perfecting his craft at the factory for the past 30 years and counting.

The Sobremesa Brûlée is a variation of the core Sobremesa liga, the Brûlée features an
Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, San Andres Negro binder and filler from
Nicaragua. This produces a mild to medium cigar with soft, creamy flavours of cedar,
caramel and café, which are complimented by its inherent sweetness being allowed to
blossom on the palate and nose - a nuttiness is also apparent within this blend

La Gloria Cubana Britanicas Extra Regional UK - 2017 released in 2020

Just 6,000 numbered boxes of ten cigars have been produced. Such a rare and unusual shape is not easy to make. The cigar roller needs to possess exceptional skill to handcraft each cigar which will not only look amazing, but is carefully constructed to provide a consistent blend throughout and a good draw from
start to finish.

Like the Bolivar Britanicas, only the highest graded cigar rollers in Cuba were assigned the task of producing these rare masterpieces. The bands that dress
these cigars are recreations of an example found in a collection in Havana. The exact date for when these bands were in use is unknown but it is estimated that they originally come from the late 1890s or the early
20th century.

La Gloria Cubana Glorias RE 5th Avenue 2015

For its 2015 Edición Regional release, German distributor 5th Avenue Products Trading GmbH,  decided to go big, selecting the La Gloria Cubana brand and a sizable 7 1/16 x 54 double pyramid vitola known as the Rodolfo.

As we have described before Habanos S.A.’s Edición Regional program brings sizes and marcas together to places where certain brands aren’t as common. While the La Gloria Cubana brand seems to be fairly known, the size picked for this release is definitely the rarer of the two components.

La Gloria Cubana Glorias RE 5th Avenue 2015 was selected by Habanos for sale exclusively in Germany. There have only been 6,000 boxes made. A rare find.

La Gloria Cubana Inmensos LCDH

La Gloria Cubana Inmensos LCDH 2010 is limited to 5,000 boxes exclusive to La Casa del Habano. The line was discontinued in 2014 making the cigar a rare finding nowadays. Medium strength, beautifully crafted.

La Gloria Cubana Invictos RE Italia 2017

La Gloria Cubana Invictos RE Italia 2017 is a beautiful cigar, medium bodied with well balanced flavours and stunning aromas. A small but powerful smoke.

La Gloria Cubana is a little-known jewel from Cuba. Founded in 1885, its name alone clearly defines its origin. For over a century it has attracted a small but loyal following amongst the most knowledgeable cigar smokers. The Medaille d’Or No. 4 is an exquisitely thin vitola measuring 6” (152mm) x 32 ring gauge and is presented in a varnished 8-9-8 box of 25 cigars and is sure to excite many aficionados who favour more slender sizes or those trying a Habano for the first time. Medium bodied with a blend made from tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and using the Tripa Larga Totalmente a Mano method (long filler totally by hand).

La Gloria Cubana Orgullosos RE Suiza 2018

The Cigar

La Gloria Cubana Orgullosos RE Suiza 2018, a cigar that has only 6,000 boxes, full of stunning flavours of coffee, green pepper and sweet tastes.

At 6 1/8 inches long by 50 ring gauge, Podium is the same size as the Trinidad Robusto Extra (only without the pigtail) and referred to as Dobles in Cuban cigar factories.

Like all Regional Edition cigars, there’s a second band beneath the primary band indicating its exclusive territory. But unlike many Regionals, the Podium is fitted with a foot band. Also of note is the ribbon holding together the cigars. Typically, that ribbon is yellow. For this release, it’s rendered in the colors of France’s flag. 

The Podiums represent the first time that a French Regional Edition has been offered in the La Gloria Cubana brand. They are packaged in 10-count boxes. Only 4,000 boxes will be produced. 

The Cigar 

Description

The Short is machine-made and pre-cut for convenience. However the robust yet mellow aromas associated with the brand remains consistent and the cigar can be enjoyed in around 15-20 minutes – when time is “short”.

Each cigar measures around 4” x 30 ring gauge and provides a brief taste of the finest tobaccos from Nicaragua.

Celebrating 20 years of partnership with La Union cigars by José “Pepin” Garcia My father Cigars and Pete Johnson, Tatuaje Cigars

José “Pepin” Garcia and Pete Johnson, of My Father Cigars and Tatuaje respectively, are marking their two-decade partnership with La Union, a set of exclusive and pricey cigars. Their collaboration began in 2003 when Garcia, originally from Cuba, established his first cigar factory in Miami's Little Havana, where he met Johnson. La Union offers four unique blends, two from each maker, in a single size called Prominente Especial. These cigars, featuring a belicoso head, come in red or black box sets. Johnson's blends use Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 or Ecuador Sumatra wrappers, while Garcia's use Ecuador Habano or Connecticut broadleaf. All cigars have Nicaraguan binder and filler, sourced from the Garcias' own farms, including Pelo d’Oro leaf. Johnson's cigars have a closed foot, while Garcia's have an open foot.
