Quai d’Orsay Cigars – Brand Status & Heritage

Established in 1973 and commercially released in 1974, Quai d’Orsay is a Cuban cigar brand uniquely created to suit French tastes. The concept was proposed by Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, then France’s Minister of Economy and Finance, who envisioned a light-flavoured cigar to pair harmoniously with champagne, foie gras, and refined French cuisine. The idea was developed through France’s tobacco monopoly SEITA, whose Paris headquarters on Quai d’Orsayinspired the brand’s name.

For much of its history, Quai d’Orsay was a local marque focused almost exclusively on the French market. This changed in 2005 with increased production and broader international availability. A major brand refresh in 2017introduced new packaging and additional cigars. Following portfolio restructuring in 2019, Quai d’Orsay was elevated from the Other category to a Value brand.

The range features light-strength cigars, crafted with premium Vuelta Abajo tobacco, offering elegance, balance, and refined Cuban character.
