Rafael González Cigars – Brand Status & Heritage

Introduced around 1928 and named after its founder, Rafael González is a refined pre-Revolution Cuban cigar brand with a distinguished history. By 1936, the brand had been acquired by the Rey del Mundo Company, and for a period was positioned as a high-end luxury marque alongside El Rey del Mundo.

Production ceased in the early 1960s, before the brand was reinstated in 1965, resuming production as a sister brand to El Rey del Mundo. Over time, Rafael González transitioned into a quieter presence within the Cuban portfolio.

Today, it is classified by Habanos S.A. within the “Other” category of portfolio brands. The range now comprises mild-strength cigars, crafted exclusively with premium tobacco from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region. Elegant and approachable, Rafael González remains a favourite for aficionados who appreciate subtlety, balance, and classic Havana refinement.
